He rose to fame owing to his association with AIB, but his skills didn’t fail to sweep away the hearts of a lot of girls, though he remain ‘sakht’ as we hear.

Anubhav Singh Bassi

Born in a small town, Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh, Anubhav Bassi has reached the skies. One of the few stand-up comedians with realistic tales and unmatched storytelling skills never cease to make us laugh. Lawyer by qualification, Bassi is a humorist by profession, and certainly the one that can light up anyone’s day.

Aditi Mittal

One of the founders and co-host of AIB, Aditi is a stand-up comedian, an actor and a writer. She usually jokes about topics that have always been considered taboo. Pretty much vocal about the gender disparity women face, Aditi has subtly created ripples to stop this inequality. We can see Aditi recently in a show called LOL: Hasse to Phasee on Amazon Prime Video and it wouldn’t be wrong to call her an artist who knows how to keep all her audiences happy.

These uncertain times call for some laughter to keep us sane. Amazon Prime Video’s LOL – Hasee Toh Phasee is coming on 30 Apr to keep you supplied with relatable laughs.

Last one Laughing (LOL) is a TV show franchise with some of its parts released in Australia and Mexico. It is now making its way to India. The show is a unique format wherein ten comics are put in a room for 6 hours in a battle of wits, jokes and improvisational comedy.

The challenge? To be the last person in the room with a straight face.

Whoever does it wins the grand prize of ₹25 Lakh.

Punya Arora– Punjabi by nature, South-Indian at heart, she is a professional photographer, a self-proclaimed Biriyani connoisseur and one of the finest comics in the scene today. While her early life wasn’t a bed of roses, one might marvel at how far she has come – laughing in the face of difficulties. This constant spreader of happiness was brought up by a brave Punjabi single mom who decided to nip her marriage in the bud when her husband expressed displeasure at their child not being a boy.

During middle school, her mother’s shop shut as ecommerce flourished; but financial difficulties never baffled the mother-daughter duo. They tightened their belts! While the teenage Punya got on to chocolate making, her mother became a property consultant. Know your comic, Punya Arora a little more:

She spent her childhood attending lots of classes like piano, art, pottery, chocolate making, candle making, to list a few – Jack of all trades, we must say!
Punya comes from a single parent background, with her mother being her the sole source of encouragement.
Before Punya held the mic and conquered the stage, she practiced photography for a good 7 years.
She loves to shoot underwater and photographs people, portraits, fashion, spaces, food.
Now that she is a stand-up comic, thanks to her Punjabi nature of talking endlessly, she has gained 27.8K Youtube subscribers and her one video fetched her over 1.7M views.
Punya’s favourite Indian comics are Sundeep Rao, Daniel Fernandes, Jeeveshu Ahluwalia and Aditi Mittal.
She continues being a visiting faculty at an institute in Ooty to teach photography and have been for the past 5 years.

Know Your Comic: Abhishek Upmanyu

Born on May 19, 1990 in New Delhi, Abhishek completed his schooling from St. Xavier’s High School, Chandigarh and A.K.S.I.P.S. Chandigarh. He completed his Bachelors in Chemical Engineering (B.E.) from Panjab University, Chandigarh.

After carrying out his graduation, he went on to work with a few private companies. In 2009 and 2010, he worked as an intern with ‘Ranbaxy,’ Gurgaon and ‘Engineers India Limited,’ New Delhi respectively. He later went on to work with ‘HPCL-Mittal Energy Ltd,’ Bhatinda in 2011 and ‘Grail Research’ as a research analyst. After leaving ‘Bain & Company,’ in 2013, he pursued his career in stand-up comedy and joined ‘On Air with AIB;’ as a writer in 2015.

In 2016, he uploaded his first video on his YouTube Channel with the title ‘Indian Insults & Comebacks.’

His two comedy shows- ‘Thoda Saaf Bol’ and ‘Jealous of Sabjiwala’ were immensely popular. Since then, he has performed on various national and international platforms.

This Delhi boy is amongst the finest young comedians in the country. He represents fresh new talent and is known to kill it on stage, all credit to his superfast delivery and unmatched observational skills.

Abhishek now lives in Mumbai and scaling new heights of success every day.

Alternative personalities or alter egos are of late playing a bigger role in creating comedy as it offers comedians a medium to bring out another side of themselves. Even the audience is becoming receptive to consuming this side of comedy.

Lately, a lot many comedy content creators are getting guised in different roles on social media to create our precious, ‘comedy’.

Like Mallika Dua has been playing a whole bunch of roles and Bhuvan Bam who is known for his BB ki Vines, there are others like Gaurav Gera too who use Snapchat filters to their maximum capacity to prepare fun bits for the consumption of comedy loving audience.

Apart from these, there are other Humour Sapiens too whom you might have missed.

a. Varun Thakur aka Vicky Malhotra

Deejay and struggling actor Vicky, known for his amazing speaking style and dad’s money is Varun’s alter ego. His leather shoes and Ed Hardy T-shirt are a perfect formula for laughter, backed with his perv oddities.

Tobasco is a Motivational Speaker who answers arbitrary questions from his followers in a way that is funny, honest and distinct. The wisdom of Tobasco feels like it is coming from someone who has been there, seen that and done that.

e. Aditi Mittal aka Dr. Mrs. Savitri Lutchuke

A character from Aditi Mittal that is similar to your mother, Mrs. Lutchuke has a Marathi accent in which she hilariously educates about sex.

Apart from these, there’s Biswa Kalyan Rath as toothless Rajesh who is a mutual fund advisor who gives some mind-blowing advice on monetary investments; and Sahil Shah as Prashant. This gujju has a wife named Parul, and they are a bee and deer couple who make it evident that bees and deers need to be heard too.

Chinmay Mhatre is a pro stand-up comedian from Mumbai who has been performing since 2015.

He has performed along with some of the greatest Indian comedians like Tanmay Bhat, Daniel Fernandes, Anuvab Pal, Aditi Mittal, Vipul Goyal, Biswa, Abish, Sorabh Pant, Vasu Primlani, Nitin Mirani, Sapan Verma, Angad Singh Ranyal, Abhishek Upmanyu, to list a few. Aditi Mittal, encouraging the talented Deepika Mhatre

Deepika Mhatre, one of the cutest comics on the block, had no idea what she was going to perform when she first stepped on stage. It was the celebration of Women’s Day in a building where she worked, and she showed what being a woman was! Leaving everyone beaming with smiles, she stepped off the stage and a journalist who saw the act put her in touch with India’s renowned, realistic and relatable comic Aditi Mittal. The kind of stories she shared in front of the mic left everyone agape. She was cute, yet witty and her blinging laughter made everyone laugh along, but at themselves! Mittal knew that Mhatre’s spark deserved a bigger stage and a bigger audience which required to be face-to-face with reality. Since then Aditi Mittal has been encouraging the talented Deepika Mhatre.

After a few days of her performance in the building event, she met Aditi Mittal who asked her to perform and she readily agreed.

Aditi helped Deepika sharpen her material and pick right gigs to gain experience but there was something that Mhatre already had – her style! She was then introduced on by Aditi on her ‘Bad Girls’ series on YouTube where she proudly announced, “Well-behaved women seldom make history…hum itihaas banaane jaa rahein hein!”

With Aditi’s Support Deepika is Doing Wonders

Mhatre mentions, her very long workday begins at 4 am on Mumbai’s local trains and ends at midnight with a stand-up gig. She gladly puts that she uses comedy as a part of her life and work fears no one while standing up in front of a strong audience.

Now, it has been over a year since her first performance, and the 44-year-old is rocking stand-up shows in and around Mumbai. She mentions how she feels so good after every show when people come and hug her because they appreciate her jokes.

In Her Opinion

She is confident enough to talk on issues that most comics refrain from talking about. Mhatre, with that smile of hers, jokes about how people discriminate against their maids, and mentions that some people understand the gravity of the issue and some even apologise for treating their house helps inaptly.

She is all set to break the class barrier, one show at a time! And we couldn’t love her more. Her acts are a satire on class inequalities. Deepika is on-point when she talks about ‘madams’ who haggle for a few rupees but don’t think twice while buying expensive items at the mall or those ladies who talk down their maids for putting too much oil in their food but order pizzas and burgers in a blink.

Humour Sapiens couldn’t thank Aditi Mittal enough for encouraging this chirpy comic and bringing her to limelight.
