For stand-up comics, the day when their specials are to be filmed is worth it. Having explored, tried, worked, re-worked, bombed and applauded for a material, it is the day when they bestow their trust upon it and get set to tape it, only to release the laugh riot their fans have been waiting for. But if you want to watch the upcoming comedy specials before anyone else does, you can be a part of taping.

Here we share the list of comedy specials getting shot in the next 2 months. Be a part of something special, something that has been groomed and tightened to perfection. It still might take more time or retakes, be patient and don’t heckle. On the other hand, feel free to laugh out loud and don’t refrain from showing enthusiasm.

Make sure, you are supportive of them when they are recording these upcoming comedy specials. Who knows, you land an audience shot in the final edit. 😉

Stand-up comedy is not just about standing up on the stage and telling jokes; it can be sketches, it can be improvisation, it can be absolutely anything that has been done creatively and can make people laugh. This group has set a benchmark for itself and it just keeps raising their bar with every video. Sometimes, it lands them in trouble, but just like the acts that they do, they just laugh it off. We are talking about All India Bakchod (AIB); it is because of them, that India has so many stand-up comics; most of them have come from the AIB stable.

Their most favourite and popular genre seems to be spoof, and each one of it is simply hilarious. Our most favourite has to be…not the obvious one of Alia Bhatt, which was also, by the way, intelligent and well-thought of spoof (in-the-moment) …but, the one titled ‘Honest Indian Weddings’. This video was released in two parts and it was a perfect and humorous satire on the wedding process in India – the dowry, the pretence of liking each other’s interests, the relatives finding faults in the preparation – everything taken into consideration and presented in the most humorous way possible.

Our another favourite is the one on ‘Honest Indian Flights’; it is nothing but the absolute truth. Right from the start, where the ‘pilot’ starts off by saying, ‘Apparently, it’s not enough that I have to keep you alive in this giant metal tube, thirty thousand feet above the ground, I also have to talk to you like I’m a fxxxxxx RJ’ till the end, where the airhostess is saying goodbye to the passengers by saying things like ‘Don’t fly with us again’ and ‘your baby is an axxxxxx’ while smiling all the while. This has to be among the AIB videos that you need to watch for sure.

Apart from that, AIB also does songs with celebrities, also a satire. The one which features Kangana Ranaut, where through way of a song, they bring out the bitter truth of Bollywood, where the actress is just considered as an ‘item’ and nothing else, is brilliant and funny at the same time.

Not just that. They have also done advertisement videos; one which sticks out is the one they had done for Truly Madly, a start-up dating portal and it was titled Creep Qawwali, where two women are fighting it out in the form of Qawwali, which of their stalkers is the ultimate creep. Once again, smart and rib-tickling.

They also have a News Comedy series and a Roast in their name; the latter became a controversy, but that just made the group stronger. Politics, Bollywood, Society – they have explored everything. They definitely have a great understanding of what comedy is and that reflects in all their works. Just watch any video that they have created, and we assure you that it will leave you tears of laughter!

Bollywood’s affair with stand-up comedy! https://humoursapiens.com/bollywoods-affair-with-stand-up-comedy/ https://humoursapiens.com/bollywoods-affair-with-stand-up-comedy/#respond Mon, 18 Jun 2018 14:54:17 +0000 http://65.0.3.216/?p=134 The term celebrity is making a happy shift towards digital mediums with engaging digital content

The term celebrity is making a happy shift towards digital mediums with engaging digital content creators coming up. Snapchat and youtube sensations are taking the Internet by the storm. They have the power to excite,  engage and influence. Now that the known stand-up comedians are stepping out of the mobile screens to big screens, is it the advent of another love affair, or an indication of convergence of two industries – Bollywood films and stand-up comedy.

Kanan Gill, yes, the one from the famous Pretentious Movie Reviews who had us ROFL with every new video, is the latest example of comics being cast in Bollywood movies. Landing a fairly sizable role in Sonakshi Sinha starrer ‘Noor’, he marked his big screen debut.

Other recent instances include AIB’s Mojo Rojo, Rohan Joshi, who supported very well in his supporting role in Baar Baar Dekho.

Apart from this, Biswa Kalyan Rath, yet again from the Pretentious Movie Reviews’ fame was seen is Brahman Naman, AIB’s Tanmay Bhat in Mr. X, Varun Thakur in Jab Tak Hai Jaan, to count a few.

No amount of recent examples can hide the contribution that the exemplary comic Vir Das had in the B-town. Recognised for his roles in movies like Badmaash Company, Go Goa Gone, Delhi Belly and Mastizaade, he is one level above the rest.

There are no two thoughts about it that Indian stand-up comedy fraternity has grown manifold over a couple of years, and has come to a point where it’s booming across the country. It has established itself as a mainstream entertainment medium and we can see comedy clubs, events and tours happening all over India.

Comedy stars have become a household name and stand-up comedy is slowly becoming an acceptable career option.

New Age Indian Comedians

Given the rise in the comedy landscape, the comedy stars are now seeking a career in the B-town that allows them an expanded reach. This is a tough move if decision makers are not open to new ideas or perspectives.

However, the increase in number of comics in films these days hint towards its recognition and direction in the industry.

Past Perfect

Hindi cinema has been known to churn out its widely celebrated comedians such as Mehmood, Kishore Kumar and Johnny Lever. It is better to term them as comic actors and not stand-up comedians, for stand-up is fairly new field.

Conclusion

Indian stand-up comics are indeed a melting pot of talent that’s waiting to be tapped. They have capacity to make great writers, directors and actors. It is high time to realise it and change the face of B-town for good.
